DEXTER® The ASC Robot™
The DEXTER® Robotic Surgery System is a soft tissue surgical robot that simplifies operations so more surgeons can provide the benefits of robotics to their patients in the outpatient setting. Purpose-built for the ambulatory surgery center (ASC), DEXTER brings robotic surgery to the ORs you already have in place, without the size, workflow, and cost burden of traditional systems.
DEXTER at a glance
- Purpose-built for ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs)
- Small, mobile footprint that requires no OR modifications
- Supports flexible workflows to leverage both laparoscopic and robotic workflows
- Open architecture, compatible with existing OR technologies such as visualization, trocars, and energy devices
- Short learning curve due to the instinctive design
- Low SPD requirements with no specialized sterilization equipment needed
- FDA cleared for inguinal and ventral hernia repair, cholecystectomy, total benign hysterectomy, and other procedures including femoral hernia in general surgery as well as endometriosis resection, oophorectomy, salpingectomy, sacrocolpopexy, sacrocervicopexy, sacrohysteropexy, and tubal ligation in gynecology (adults 22 and older)
Demand for robotic soft tissue surgery continues to grow, especially in the US where more than 70% of soft tissue surgeons are robotically trained during residency.
At the same time, US patients and payors are increasingly pushing for high volume, lower acuity procedures to shift to the more convenient and cost-effective ambulatory surgery center (ASC) setting. This creates a paradox when traditional robotic platforms do not fit the physical, workflow, and financial needs of ASCs.
The DEXTER Robotic Surgery System is purpose-built for the ASC, simplifying operations so more surgeons can provide their patients with the benefits of robotics in a convenient same day surgery setting.

With its small, mobile footprint, DEXTER fits into the smallest operating room or ASC. Without the need for costly modifications, it fits through a standard OR door and can be set up in rooms as small as 125 sq ft. With DEXTER, you don’t need a dedicated room so robotic and non-robotic cases can take place in the same OR.
DEXTER mobility allows it to be maneuvered between rooms to reduce turnover time and maximize throughput.

The unique sterile, open console positions the surgeon close to the patient for quick bedside access and keeps the surgeon connected with the OR team. With no redocking required, surgeons can transition between laparoscopic and robotic techniques as desired.
No reprocessing burden, with disposable single use instruments this means no additional cost for sterilization equipment, SPD staffing, and cleaning supplies.

DEXTER is open by design. It works with existing OR technology such as visualization, electrosurgical towers, trocars, and advanced energy devices, which helps ASCs consolidate vendors, streamline inventory, and manage expenses.

DEXTER has an instinctive design that supports a smooth learning curve for new, occasional, and frequent robotic surgeons. System setup is quick with docking performed in about 4 minutes.
